OUR MISSION

To establish a network of students with cardiologists in order to learn more about the medical field. Also, to provide members with experiences at hospitals, private clinics, and medical institutions. which will prepare them for their future medical professions.

Message from the founder and President of ICEP:

"In 2016, The Institute of Cardiology at El Paso (ICEP) was founded at the Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). Since then, it has thrived above expectations due to its dedicated and passionate members who have taken an active role in the El Paso community. The ICEP is representative of a diverse group of students from the Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é of Texas at El Paso, New Mexico State Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é, Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, and Tecnológico de Monterrey in
Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.

The goal of the Institute of Cardiology at El Paso is to expose future physicians to the excitement of different fields within cardiology. To do so, ICEP provides members with a uniquely comprehensive view of the field of Cardiology through conferences, shadowing opportunities, physician panels, and other events. With the help of its advisor, Dr. Robert Kirken, the group meets with leading researchers in medicine and participates in projects with the National Institute of Health and the National Alliance for Hispanic Health.

Members benefit by getting early exposure to cardiology, plus the privilege to hear some wonderful doctors whom they would not otherwise come in contact with so early in their training. We also provide shadowing opportunities, enabling students to get experience with cardiology patients. Lastly, ICEP provides opportunities for members to get to know cardiology fellows and attendings through our annual cardiology panels, social events, and mixers, thus creating a collegial atmosphere to foster interest in cardiology. We hope this group will spark interest in pursuing a career path in one of the cardiology specialties to balance the growing need for cardiologists both in the clinical and research realms."
